Ian and Dana at Girasole Restaurant
Toy and Dana at Girasole Restaurant
Dana and her husband, Ian, are here in Chiang Mai at the moment. They are from Sydney. She originally read my blog about dermatologists here at the Chiang Mai Ram hospital
They came to Bangkok earlier to have dental work done in Bangkok.
We met them at the Pak Chiang Mai Guest House. After a cup of coffee at the terracotta garden coffee shop, we adorned to the food mall at Maya for lunch.
They plan to retire to Chiang Mai in about two years time so they asked many questions about life here and living costs.
On Tuesday we all had a pleasant dinner at the Girasole Italian restaurant.
Last night we dined at the Norden restaurant again in view of our previous pleasant experience.
Unfortunately we were the only customers. We of course received attentive and pleasant service. We shared cheese balls as an appetiser and both ordered a pork chop for a main. Food was again delicious.
I cannot understand why such a pleasant restaurant received poor patronage especially for Saturday evening. Perhaps it is a little far from the city.
OnThursday night the Dining Out Group ate at Steak of the Day in the plaza at Mae Rim.A small group of eight of us enjoyed the evening.
Toy and I both ordered a NZ sirlion steak and shared a berry compote for desert. The food was fine but a little expensive. Wine was overpriced. The night was very hot; it is an open-air restaurant with no airconditioning.
We were made very welcome by the wife of the owner and the chef.

Before the Meeting
Last night we attended the Travel club meeting at the Food4Thought restaurant. The meeting was about the joys of travelling around Thailand with a folding bike by a seventy old British guy.
The sbject was only mildly iinteresting to me as I am unlikely to repeat his travels. (I am seventy seven tomorrow!)
The Food4Thought Restaurant
We had 1/2 each of a ham sandwich and a curried chicken sandwich, both extremely delicious.
Inside the Restaurant
A Hungry Pair
Well here I am back in Chiang Mai.
Last night we went to Norden restaurant. This spacious restaurant is run by a Sweedish guy, Phil. The decor has a Nordic influence coupled with modernism. It is located on the Super Highway just short of the Big C shopping mall. It has excellent parking. Patrons were couples and two large family groups. All Thais!
For an appetiser we shared calamari rings. For my main course I ordered NZ steak. It came with chips and salad. It was probably the best steak I have tasted in Chiang mai and was cooked medium to perfection. Toy ordered one of their signature dishes, baby ribs. It was served on a wooden platter and was huge and looked like it was meant for sharing. A doggy bag provided enough for lunch today!
We were too full for deserts.
I was very impressed with this restaurnt, it’s proprieter and saff and we will be back.
